Dvorak, Mozart e Stravinsky

The Nocturne for string orchestra in B major, op. 40 by Antonin Dvorak has one single movement and lasts no more than ten minutes. Extracted from a slow movement (Andante Religioso) of his former String Quartet N.4 in E minor composed in 1870, this short composition is impregnated all over by a serene and calm atmosphere. Dvorak developed the movement into this Nocturne and published it in 1883. The Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in E flat, K364, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was written during his tour of Europe and represents his most successful realization in this cross-over genre between symphony and concerto. Is is well-known that Igor Stravinsky fashioned his ballet Pulcinella after the music of Giambattista Pergolesi (1710-1936). The ballet was premiered with great success in Paris, in 1920; two years later Stravinsky decided to extract from the ballet some themes and wrote this Concert Suite where the composer made minor revisions in 1949.
