Tristan Und Isolde by Richard Wagner
Tristan Und Isolde by Richard Wagner. Libreto by Richard Wagner.
Synopsis
Richard Wagner could not get away with the huge impact that the rediscovery of German medieval poetry has produced in the 19th century German Romantic poets. Inspired by his love for Mathilde Wesendonck and by Arthur Schoppenhauer philosophy, he completed the score of Tristan und Isolde in 1859 but its Munich premiere was delayed till 1865 since the Vienne Court Opera considered it impossible to be performed.
The Celtic tale of the tragic love between the Cornish heroe Tristan and the Irish princess Isolde – told and retold in countless versions – meets in Wagner’s drama the most transcendental embodiment of love whose melodic structure stretched to the limits of musical tradition with its daring and innovative harmonies, heralds the most important stage of modern music.
